Just got back from the Mountain Goats show. Thanks Dan and Emac for introducing me to such a fine band. I’ve been to a few concerts now as a sober woman and let me tell you they are way more fun now than when I was on drugs. I always thought I needed drugs to enhance music but I now realize I was too busy thinking about drugs and going to the bathroom to do drugs to even listen to the music....

For reals, who has that job? Someone gets to spend hours and hours looking through LOLcat submissions and posting them. This job would be killer. Then again, maybe I would grow to hate LOLcats if this was my job. For every awesome submission there are probably 200 really lame ones to deal with. I guess wanting this job would be like wanting to work in book publishing. I think, “oh man, book...

“Naom Chomsky believes that children have an innate ability to learn language...”
– No wonder Nicole and I have trouble learning languages (trouble learning= failing language courses in college or passing with a “pity C”). We should have utilized those Muzzy tapes as children. Although, I didn’t learn Spanish as a child out of spite and resentment because I asked...

Why did your parents give you the name that they...
ridiculousroo: As my due date approaches, a common question everyone asks is “What are you going to name him?” … I know that as for myself, I was named Nicole because I was supposed to be a Christmas baby (I was born 2 weeks early) so I was named after St. Nicholas (you know… “Jolly old St. Nick”) and I would have been named Nick had I been a boy. My sister is named Jillian because that...

So, my girl and I were making sandwiches last...
Today on the bus some of the older kids were talking about sex and I was like, “Hey! That’s not appropriate, some of the younger kids might know what you’re talking about!” I told them to use a code word if they must discuss such things and now sex on Bus Route 14 will forever be known as “making sandwiches.”

Today I Was Happy, So I Made This Poem.
As the plump squirrel scampers Across the roof of the corncrib, The moon suddenly stands up in the darkness, And I see that it is impossible to die. Each moment of time is a mountain. An eagle rejoices in the oak trees of heaven, Crying This is what I wanted. -James Wright TGIF! Today is a beautiful day. Today is the most important day in your life, as is every new day that you’re...

[IF] If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too, If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can...

Winesburg, Ohio.
A young kid on the bus today was talking too much and I wanted him to be quiet so I gave him my book to read. He usually wants to read books like Pokemon or Goosebumps but I didn’t have any so I challenged him to start reading Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. While he was reading he kept looking up at me and giving me weird looks. It wasn’t until later that I realized my notes in...

It’s always a strange sensation approaching home. Flying on a plane to arrive where you came from, leaving something behind to return to reality. I always choose a window seat because the person inside me who enjoys feeling melancholy and a bit depressed enjoys pondering my life while looking at the city lights of Los Angeles. I try to suppress this person nowadays because I can’t...

401-Keg Plan
alexkehr: If you bought $1000 of stock a year ago, you would now have: $91.28 if you bought Washington Mutual $37.50 if you bought Neomagic $21.29 if you bought Freddie Mac $20.79 if you bought Fannie Mae But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the recycling REFUND… You would have $… 214.00 in cash. So the best investment...

Discovery Channel's My Shocking Story: Tree Man →
Half Man Half Tree 32 year old Dede lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children, trying to care for them. Dede, a former fisherman, has an extraordinary skin condition: he has root like structures growing out of his body - branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body. “This is love, isn’t it? When you notice someone’s absence and hate that absence...”
– Jonathan Safran Foer, Everything is Illuminated  (via paperbackgirl) This is so perfect. When I read it my mind was flooded with picture perfect memories of sitting somewhere absolutely hating the fact that the person I loved was on a vacation or such.
